Then we used scales and weights to check our working out. We loved it when the scales balanced!
We love reading, and being read to, so we all really enjoyed Literacy Week! Mr Edwards, Chief Executive of CCEA, entertained us with Roald Dahl’s ‘The Twits’, Mrs Haridy read us a traditional Egyptian story and Mrs Lee from the Grove library brought along lots of books related to our Polar Explorers topic. We also enjoyed dressing up as our favourite book characters on World Book Day!
We have been using 4 digits to make the largest/ smallest numbers possible, addition sums with the largest possible answer and subtraction sums with the lowest possible answer. We love using our whiteboards during mental maths.
As part of our Polar Explorers topic, we experimented with different materials to see which one was the best insulator to keep a penguin warm! We wrapped different materials around cans, filled them with warm water then measured the temperature using a digital thermometer. We predicted that tin foil would be the best because we use foil at home to keep chicken warm but were surprised to discover that polystyrene was a clear winner!
We thoroughly enjoyed a morning at St Patrick’s getting to know our year 4 buddies! We discovered some differences and lots of similarities with our partners and then coloured ourselves in each other’s uniform - it was great fun seeing what we would look like! We can’t wait to meet up again!
We were baffled when we discovered what appeared to be ice eggs in our Green Room! One had a hole that we think something hatched out from and it was hollow inside. The other was solid but there was definitely something inside it. Could it be a clue to our new topic?!
We enjoyed lots of activities during Health Promotion Week. We became food detectives, ate lots of fruit for break, earned extra dojo points and took part in a poster competition. We enjoyed interactive activities online, kept fit in the classroom and the highlight of the week had to be our 60 second disco!
